2. Level 2
You will then see the main App therapy screen. All images in level two are of words that have three sounds. If you selected the same four options that are listed above, you will see words that have three sounds that all start with 's', such as 'sun', 'sit' and 'size'.
Some words that have three sounds have more than three letters, for example 'seat' is spelled with four letters, however there are only three sounds. This is because the word is made up of 's + ea + t'. In this case, 'ea' is a long vowel sound that is spelled with two letters. The beauty of the Flexible Speech App is that all words and sounds are pre-sorted into their corresponding difficulty levels for your convenience.
Lisp therapy in level 2
You may continue to use the 'tick' and 'refresh' icons in the bottom right and left corners of the screen respectively, as explained in detail in the previous post. This will allow you to move through the App while scoring each of your child's attempts at producing the words without their tongue showing between their teeth.
Once your child is achieving at least 80% correct imitations of these words, progress to the following:
2. Level 2
The stimuli you see now will be of the same difficulty as you are remaining in level 2, however these words all show 's' at the end of words, such as 'kiss', 'lace' and 'bus'. Continue encouraging your child to imitate these words without producing a lisp at the end of each word.
If this is too difficult
Have your child repeat level 1. Sometimes children need a little more practice in the easier levels than first expected in order for them to gain and reinforce a strong foundation. This will hopefully give them the skills and encouragement to successfully move back up to level 2.
It will be time to move up to level 3 when your child is achieving at least 80% correct App imitations of these level 2 words in both the 'beginning' and the 'end' positions.
